Eurofighter Typhoon

Mil-C-38999, series 1.5 EMI/EMP connectors in six different configurations, are being used on the current production of the EF2000 Typhoon military Fighter aircraft cockpit-warning panel. These connectors range from 10-02 layout through to 24-35.

All the connectors contain mixed contact filtering with different value Pi filters, ranging from 47pF for video and high frequency, to 100nF on slower signal lines. There are sub connections, inner bussed contacts, and also common mode filters. All the connectors contain Lightning protection to DO 160 section 22, level 3. All this technology was achieved within the standard 38999 shell, allowing the customer to minimise the real estate requirement and weight.

AEF are also engaged in the assembly of these and other specified connectors to their respective flex-assemblies.

The company manages all aspects of procurement, manufacture and test in order to provide our customer with a complete service.

Joint Strike Fighter

This custom design utilises a hermetically sealed (Glass to Metal) Stainless Steel shelled D38999 series III Connector.

Contacts have in-line High Power Resistors, EMI protection and Transition Sockets for a Hybrid device to plug onto the rear of the connector.

A400M

Due to the largely composite structure of many of the Aircraft under construction today, the necessity for the Aircraft systems to withstand the effects of multiple lightning strikes is more critical than ever.

The latest specification standard, for Arinc connectors used within this domain, specify that many, if not all, signal transmission lines be protected to DO 160 section 22 level 4.

AEF have successfully developed and supplied a product that meets this stringent specification.

C-130

AEF were approached by an Avionics equipment manufacturer wishing to upgrade a black box used on the C-130 Aircraft, to provide lightening protection to Level 4, waveform 4 of DO160-F.

The project was taken on by AEF but has an unusual requirement in that the black box is qualified to Level 3 waveform 3 and cannot be modified.

AEF has overcome the problem by supplying an Arinc 404 Plug connector, which replaces the existing aircraft plug and provides lightening protection to the required level.

The connector can be installed in situ and negates the need of a new aircraft wiring loom or any modification to the box or mounting system.

Installation is quick and simple and minimises the AOG condition.

UAV's

A suite of 10 off D38999 series III connectors has been provided for a UAV application. The connectors provide DO160-F Level 3 EMP Protection and EMI Filtering. Contact types include signal, power, Coaxiall and Qudraxial.

Tiger Helicopter

AEF have designed, developed, and are supplying a Filter/EMP protected EN3682 style connector for use on the IFF System for Tiger Helicopter.

The connector, which contains Signal, Power, Coaxial and Twinaxial contacts, is provided with EMP protection in the form of uni-directional and bi-directional diodes on many of these contacts to meet the requirements of DO 160 section 22 level 4.

Additionally, EMI protection is  afforded by the use of capacitors on a large number of contacts.

Jas 39

A D38999 Series I connector is provided for use on the Cockpit Oxygen Control system for the SAAB Grippen fighter aircraft. This connector has a compination of EMI protected and Grounded contacts.

Litening SE

AEF are providing a Line Replaceable Power Filter Module for use on the Litening SE Pod. The unit provides filtering on 115Vac 400Hz power lines.
